Eid-Ul-Adha: TMC urges leaders and Muslims to embrace sacrifice, reject immorality and seek national renewal

The Ogun State chapter of the Muslim Congress (TMC) has congratulated Muslims in Ogun State and across Nigeria on the celebration of Eid-Ul-Adha 2026, urging worshipers and political leaders to embrace the spirit of sacrifice, obedience and spiritual rebirth as lessons of the festival.

The group said the celebration of Eid, rooted in the obedience of Prophets Ibrahim, Ismail and Muhammad (SAW), offers lasting solutions to the moral, economic and socio-political challenges facing Nigeria and the world.

In a statement released on Friday and signed by the group’s Waali, Dr Jamiu Folarin, TMC said the significance of Eid-Ul-Adha goes far beyond ritual slaughter, stressing that it should inspire reflection, discipline and national responsibility.

“The celebration of Eid-Ul-Adha brings with it a set of lessons that Muslims around the world must maximize to reverse the spiritual, social, political and economic crisis currently experienced globally,” the statement read.

The organization urged Muslims to consider the holiday as a time of spiritual renewal and commitment to living righteously, warning against reducing the celebration to simple festivities devoid of moral content.

He stressed that sacrifice – the central message of Eid – should guide both citizens and leaders, especially those in positions of authority.

“The symbol of sacrifice, which is the foundation of this festival, should be the guiding principle for all Nigerians, especially those at the helm of affairs,” TMC said.

The group also called on political office holders to use the period to reevaluate their management and renew their commitment to the social contract with the people, warning that the responsibility of leadership extends beyond the earthly realm.

“We appeal to governments and people’s representatives at all levels to use the occasion of this festival to renew their commitment to the social contract they have made with the people, keeping in mind that Allah will call them to account on the Day of Judgment,” it read.

TMC lamented what it described as a worsening global crisis, arguing that the world’s repeated attempts to resolve socioeconomic challenges through various models have yielded limited success.

He argued that Islamic principles remain a viable framework for addressing social degradation and promoting sustainable development.

“It appears that the world has experimented with different models to address the multitude of challenges facing humanity with little or no progress. Muslims should make use of the time-tested Islamic model around the world – at individual, family and social levels – to provide sustainable solutions to these problems,” the group added.

The organization also warned against excesses during the celebration, warning that indulgence in immoral behavior, recklessness and neglect of spiritual duties undermines the essence of Eid-Ul-Adha.

“It is an act of worship that should not be tainted by sin, recklessness or immoral conduct, but rather characterized by virtuous actions, moderation and compassion for humanity,” TMC warned.

The group prayed for peace, unity and divine mercy upon Nigeria and the global Muslim community, urging citizens to uphold values that promote national harmony and stability during and beyond the festive period.
