The APC shortlisted 17 candidates for the Enugu local council elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has selected 17 candidates to fly the party flag in the local government elections in the state.

The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has scheduled the local council elections for September 26.

At least 12 local government officials got return tickets during the party primaries.

They include Jude Asogwa (Nsukka), Caleb Ani (Enugu South); Ugo Ukwueze (Igboeze South), Ibenaku Onoh (Enugu North), Ugochukwu Nwanjoku (Aninri; and Greg Anyaegbudike (Oji River).

The duo of Messrs. Obiora Obeagu of Isi-Uzo and Sydney Edeh of Nkanu East who have completed their two-term constitutional terms have been replaced by Brendan Ani and Mike Ogbuekwe respectively.

The three incumbent chiefs who did not return for training are Eric Odo, Igbo-Etiti, Aka Eze, Udenu and Uche Ogalla, Igboeze North.

They were replaced with Martin Ugwu for Igbo Eititi, Ikechukwu Ezeoha, Udenu and Dr Chris Onyekachi for Igboeze North.

Handing over Certificates of Return to successful candidates on Wednesday at the APC State Secretariat in Enugu, the party’s State Chairman, Dr.
Martin Chukwunweike described the primaries as peaceful and successful.

“We are happy that everything went smoothly. Everything went smoothly in all local governments. We never had any serious problems and all the results have come back,” he said.
