Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has blamed the country’s disaster on bad politicians and citizens’ refusal to follow and uphold the truth.
Adebayo stated this after emerging as the presidential flag bearer at the party’s national convention in Bauchi State.
“It is not just the bad nature of politicians that is responsible for the sinking state of Nigeria today, but the refusal of citizens to follow the truth and uphold it.”
Congratulating the party members who risked their lives to travel to faraway Bauchi to vote for him as the presidential candidate in the primaries against all odds, he said their determination “is a signal to Nigeria that the SDP is an independent, undefeated and self-propelled champion of Nigerian democracy and good governance”.
According to him, this decision would result in the election of SDP candidates as president, members of the National Assembly, governors and members of the state assembly in next year’s general elections.
The SDP presidential flag-bearer urged Nigerians to “use your freedom while you still have it. Use your freedom to give yourself a multi-party democracy”.
Prince Adebayo said Nigerians need diversity and also different political parties that believe in different things, but loyal to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He noted that the SDP defied all odds to field a presidential candidate as well as candidates for other positions in the 2027 polls, despite pressure on opposition political parties against this.
He urged Nigerians to work with him as their servants who “have no desire”, stressing that it was not his turn “but the turn of the common people of Nigeria and the turn of widows to receive help”.
While expressing optimism that the SDP will win next year’s general elections, Adebayo promised that the party’s candidates will not behave like the current crop of politicians who fail to deliver on their promises once elected.
