A faction in the Kabiru Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fallen victim to a directive by hotels and event centers in Abuja not to host political parties that are not recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has taken issue with the heating and threatened to revoke the documents of hotels, event centers or other public spaces that allow their factors to be used by what he characterized as illegal associations.
The PDP faction in a Friday statement signed by Comrade Ini Ememobong, National Working Committee Interim Publicity Secretary, said they had received a communication from the event center which they had previously booked for use.
The party said, “We have been informed by the owners of the Class A Events Center about the threat by FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to close their establishments if the Peoples Democratic Party @OfficialPDPNig is allowed to use their hall for the endorsement ceremony of our presidential candidate.

“We state here, and for the record, that we have given full consideration to perfecting the previous offer and acceptance. Additionally, we have notified all relevant security agencies of the incident. We have directed our attorneys to write a letter, alerting A Class Event Center of these facts.
“Having fulfilled these requirements, we reiterate that the special convention to ratify the presidential candidacy of President Goodluck Jonathan will be held as scheduled on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the A Class Event Centre, Wuse 2, Abuja, at 10 am.
“We believe that Nigeria is a country ruled by law, and any attempt to use force to suppress dissent and political opposition is an aberration that must be resisted by all people of good conscience. Nowhere in our constitution is the FCT Minister empowered to determine what events should be held and where they should be held. Such unlimited powers are strange for a democratic republic, but are only available and operational under an emperor – a title that President Tinubu has been at pains to reject.
“We invite party leaders from the state, NEC members and other important stakeholders to attend the event as scheduled.”
