A 36-year-old man has been jailed for assaulting DISCO staff in Lagos

Police on Monday charged a 36-year-old man, Kennedy Mburuche, at the Ojo Magistrates Court in Lagos, for allegedly assaulting staff of the Eko Elelctricity Distribution Company (EKEDC).

Mburuche was charged with two counts of assault and breach of peace.

However, he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Prosecutor ASP Esther Adesulu told the court that the accused committed the offense on April 22, at James Oyelekan Street in Ilogbo, Ajangbadi, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendant assaulted Mudashiru Yusuf, an EKEDC staff member while he was carrying out his lawful duties.

Prosecutors said Mburuche also caused a breach of the peace by threatening the complainant’s life with broken bottles and stones.

The offence, Adesulu said, is contrary to the provisions of sections 168 and 172 of the 2015 Lagos State Criminal Law.

Magistrate OM Ogun granted the accused bail of N200,000 with one surety in a similar sum

He then adjourned the case to June 15 for mention.
