Flamingos coach refused to celebrate early

Before the second leg, Busari repeatedly warned that the qualifying tie was far from over despite the first leg advantage.

The coach insisted that his players must remain focused and continue to develop the mentality necessary to compete at the highest level.

“As I said before the first game, the team is still in the process of being built.” Busari said.

“What we did in Guinea happened in Guinea.”

“We want to continue from where we stopped. It’s not about changing the team, it’s about consistency and what we want to instill in them.”

“It’s about a team mentality because the Guineans want to counterattack and show their strength. We want to see how our players respond in these types of situations. These are the things that will help us when we get to more challenging levels.”

Busari also emphasized that you should never underestimate any opponent.

“I don’t rule out any team when we get to the tournaments. Every team has a role to play and at the end of it all, one team will win.”

“We will leave no stone unturned. We want you to know that this is Nigeria and we know how to do it better.”

Even with a five-goal lead, the coach saw the second leg as a crucial opportunity for the team.

How the Flamingos built their lead in the first leg

Nigeria had practically finished the competition in the first leg played at the Stade Félix-Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan.

The Flamingos came to life from the first seconds.

Captain Harmony Chidi opened the scoring in the first minute before doubling Nigeria’s lead in the 13th minute with a stunning shot from outside the penalty area.

Coach Busari’s team dominated possession and territory throughout the match and got their reward again in the 37th minute when Oluwakemi Adegbuyi scored to make it 3-0.

Three minutes later, Chidi completed his hat-trick and Nigeria’s fourth goal of the afternoon.

The second half brought more misery for Guinea as Mary Dunstan added a fifth goal in the 56th minute to complete a comprehensive 5-0 victory.

The result left Guinea facing an almost impossible task heading into the second leg.

Guinea arrived expecting a miracle

Guinea coach Amadou Kain Camara remained optimistic despite the crushing first-leg defeat.

Before the match, he praised the hospitality shown by Nigeria.

“Before we start, I really want to thank the Nigerian Football Federation for the way they received us and welcomed us.”

“They made us feel at home.”

“We know that Nigeria is a strong team and we have also prepared for this match. We believe that when we come to this match, we will do our best.”

“Camara also insisted that his team would continue fighting despite the deficit.”

“We know we lost 5-0, but we have prepared and are ready for this match. We are ready to do our best to make sure we come out victorious.”

Guinea captain Aicha Kouyate echoed that confidence.

“We’re going to do everything we can to see how we can play this game and win.”

“Unfortunately for the visitors, the reality turned out to be very different.”
