NAPHER SD booked their place in the semi-finals of the ongoing Dean’s Cup at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) after a spectacular late free kick from Aina Oluwasegun secured a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over the Art Education Students Association (AESA).
The Human Kinetics and Health Education part, popularly known as NAPHER SD, showed resilience and determination to reverse an initial setback after AESA took the lead and seemed ready to move forward.
With one goal behind, NAPHER SD intensified their attacking efforts in search of an equalizer. Their persistence paid off as Zion found the back of the net to restore parity and rekindle his team’s hopes of reaching the semifinals.
With both teams fighting fiercely for a place in the semi-finals, the contest remained close as the game entered its final stages. However, Oluwasegun produced a moment of brilliance that finally separated the two sides.
After receiving a free kick from approximately 32 yards, the midfielder confidently stepped forward and unleashed a powerful shot that flew past the goalkeeper and into the net, causing his teammates and supporters to celebrate.
A spectacular goal completed SD NAPHER’s comeback and secured their place in the semi-finals, where they will face TVESA on Wednesday.
Speaking after the match, Oluwasegun attributed the victory to the collective team effort rather than individual brilliance.
“It feels great to score the winning goal and help send my team to the semi-finals,” Oluwasegun told Sportxvibe.com.ng.
“But it’s more about teamwork and the fighting spirit of each player on the team. We have to keep that spirit and keep playing game by game.”
With momentum firmly on their side, NAPHER SD will now turn their attention to Wednesday’s semi-final clash against TVESA as they continue their quest for Dean’s Cup glory.
