Poland forces the Super Eagles to a 2-2 draw

A Przemyslaw Wisniewski goal in added time allowed Poland to force the Nigerian Super Eagles to a 2-2 draw in Wednesday’s international friendly match in Warsaw.

The Super Eagles were on the verge of achieving two consecutive victories against Poland, thanks to goals from Moffi and substitute Paul Onuachu.

But with just seconds left in the game, Wisniewski volleyed a long-range volley past Maduka Okoye to force a tie.

Next up for the Super Eagles is a second friendly clash with Portugal, who are heading to the 2026 World Cup, on Wednesday, June 10.

For the match against Poland Super Eagles, coach Eric Chelle named a starting lineup that had Okoye in goal, debutant Abdullahi Bewene, Igoh, Emmanuel Fernandez, Bruno Onyemaechi in defense, Wilfred Ndidi, Tochukwu Nnadi, Frank Onyeka in midfield and Akor Adams, Moffi and Moses Simon in attack.

Poland had the first big chance of the match in the fourth minute, but Jakub Kaminski was unable to direct his free header from a cross towards the goal.

In the seventh minute, Poland almost broke the deadlock when Akor Adams almost headed a corner into his own goal, but was lucky to see the ball go inches wide of the goal.

Robert Lewandowski had a great chance to score in the 14th minute, but his shot from a set piece fell into the arms of Maduka Okoye.

But it was the Super Eagles who took the lead in the 23rd minute thanks to Moffi, who scored from close range after a low cross from Moses Simon. The goal was subjected to VAR control and was finally confirmed.

In the 28th minute Poland came close, but Okoye calmly stopped a shot that was going for goal.

With five minutes left in the first half, Tochukwu Nnadi saw his curler deflected for a corner.

Before the start of the second half, coach Eric Chelle made seven changes with the entry of Calvin Bassey, Philip Otele, Raphael Onyedika, Rafiu Durosinmi, Semi Ajayi, Zaidu Sanusi and Onuachu.

Moments after entering the tie Otele sent a dangerous cross that was cleared.

In the 71st minute, Lewandowski had a golden opportunity when he took advantage of a poor back pass from Zaidu Sanusi, but his tame shot was saved by Okoye.

A minute later, Sanusi shot brilliantly with his left foot that the goalkeeper deflected for a corner.

The Super Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the 77th minute when Onuachu converted a penalty after a Polish player touched the ball in the area.

In the 82nd minute, Okoye made a great save from close range to deny Lewandowski a set piece.

Okoye was called into action again in the first minute of stoppage time when he stooped well to save a low shot.

But in the 95th minute, a magnificent long-range shot by Wisniewski denied the Super Eagles victory.
