Screening of Nigerians seeking evacuation from South Africa…

The Federal Government has announced that the screening exercise for Nigerians in South Africa who have registered for evacuation will conclude today, paving the way for final arrangements to bring them home.

A message from Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa on a WhatsApp platform said the screening process began on Thursday and is being jointly conducted by the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria, South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation, the South African Police Service and immigration authorities.

He noted that the operation aims to verify and exonerate Nigerians who have indicated interest in returning to Nigeria following recent concerns and attacks on foreign nationals in some parts of South Africa.

Ebienfa said that once the screening is complete, authorities will have a final figure on eligible evacuees. The federal government will then finalize logistical arrangements, including the deployment of aircraft to fly affected citizens back to Nigeria.
