The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has expressed what it describes as “deep disappointment” over the government’s failure to ensure the release of hostages kidnapped by bandits since August 2026 in Dekara community, Borgu Local Government Area, Niger State.
The party also condemned the tragic death of 37 miners who lost their lives while in the custody of the NSCDC in Minna, Niger State.
Muhammed Ishaq, National Publicity Secretary of the PRP, in a statement on Saturday evening, said that the victims’ continued presence in the kidnappers’ lair “highlights the party’s position that the current government has failed in its primary duty to protect the lives and property of its citizens. The inability to protect citizens from such heinous acts is deeply worrying and unacceptable, warranting widespread condemnation”.
The PRP urges the government to recognize that the increasing incidents of banditry, kidnapping and other security violations in the North Central and North West regions represent an imminent threat. If not addressed, “these problems could escalate into catastrophic national security breaches,” he said.
The PRP also emphasized that the government must step up its efforts by holding security officers accountable, revise policies to truly improve the well-being of Nigerians, and intensify efforts to restore peace and security across the country.
“Furthermore, the PRP condemns the tragic deaths of 37 miners who lost their lives while in the custody of the NSCDC in Minna, Niger State. We demand the immediate establishment of an Independent Commission of Inquiry to determine the cause of this unfortunate incident and call for the prosecution of anyone found guilty.
“As a party committed to justice and good governance, we implore all relevant authorities to take decisive action to address this pressing security issue and uphold the dignity and safety of every Nigerian citizen,” the statement read.
