He super falcons sent another powerful warning to the rest of Africa ahead of the 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne on Monday.
The continental champions produced a dominant second-half performance to defeat Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses 3-0 in the second leg of their international friendly series.
After winning the first match 2-1 on Friday, coach Justine Madugu’s team raised their level significantly in the second leg, turning a tense first-half battle into a one-sided duel.
After the break, Joy Omewa announced herself with a magnificent double before Asisat Oshoala added the icing on the cake.
The convincing victory meant Nigeria completed a perfect double over Senegal with a 5-1 In total, they scored five goals in the two matches and conceded just one, ahead of next month’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

With confidence flowing down the side, the Falcons became increasingly difficult to stop.
Seven minutes after opening the scoring, Omewa scored again.
The striker showed tremendous determination and physical strength to break through the Senegal defense, finish clinically and double Nigeria’s lead in the 55th minute.

While Nigeria’s attack deserved praise, the defensive unit also put in an excellent performance.
The Falcons stayed organized throughout the match, limiting Senegal’s chances and ensuring goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie enjoyed a relatively comfortable afternoon.
Unlike the first match, where Senegal scored a late consolation goal, this time the visitors did not find a way back into the match as Nigeria remained focused until the final whistle.

Perfect preparation before WAFCON
The victory provides another significant boost for the reigning African champions as preparations for the African Women’s Cup of Nations in Morocco intensify.
Nigeria will enter the tournament looking to extend their record 11th continental crown and will face Egypt, Zambia and debutants Malawi in Group C.
Meanwhile, Senegal is included in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Algeria and Kenya.
The tournament, scheduled to take place from July 25 to August 16 in Morocco, will also serve as Africa’s qualification route for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
The top four teams will automatically qualify, while the fifth-ranked team will advance to an intercontinental playoff tournament.
For now, however, the Super Falcons can take a big boost from a friendly campaign that showcased attacking flair, defensive discipline, team depth and a growing sense of momentum.
With Joy Omewa emerging as one of the biggest double-header winners and Oshoala rediscovering his scoring touch, Nigeria’s quest for their 11th African title begins on a good note.
