Osun APC condemns violence ahead of gubernatorial election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun has condemned what it described as a growing culture of intimidation, harassment and violence ahead of the state’s August 15 gubernatorial election.

Director General of the APC Governorship Campaign Council, Mr. Oluwole Oke, warned at a press conference in Oaogbo that intimidation of party supporters by criminal elements in the state must stop.

He condemned the attack carried out by suspected political thugs on an APC campaign bus in Owode-Ede area of the state on Tuesday.

Oke added that several APC supporters were injured in the attack, while campaign materials were also destroyed.

He said violence has no place in a democratic society and should be a source of concern for every well-meaning citizen.

Oke called on the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the Department of Foreign Services, the Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, and other relevant security agencies to immediately stem the rising tide of political violence in the state.

“We state categorically that no political office is worth the blood of any citizen,” the APC official said.

He said the people of the state deserve peace, security and equality as preparations for the gubernatorial election intensify.

Oke stated that the APC remains committed to legitimate political engagement and will continue to peacefully mobilize support across communities, despite provocations and intimidation from violent elements.

There was sporadic shooting in the Ife and Owo-Ede areas of the state on Tuesday, leaving several passers-by injured by stray bullets.
