Gombe woman stabbed to death during phone theft attempt, two arrested

A 20-year-old man and his 18-year-old accomplice have been arrested by the Gombe State Police Command for the alleged murder of a mother of five, Aishatu Salisu, during a suspected attempt to steal her mobile phone.

Aishatu was reportedly stabbed during the attack at her residence in Wuro Shie Quarters, Gombe, in the early hours of Saturday.

The incident occurred around 4.35am when suspected attackers allegedly invaded the residence of Inspector Salisu Waziri, a police officer attached to the Safer Highway Patrol.

According to police, the attackers attempted to deprive Aishatu of her cell phone after gaining access to the residence.

The deceased reportedly raised the alarm during the attack, prompting one of the suspects to stab her with a machete before the attackers fled.

The attackers, however, left the phone as they ran away.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, Gombe State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said the Pantami Division patrol team was immediately mobilized to the scene upon receiving information about the attack.

Abdullahi said the victim was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where he was declared brought dead.

He revealed that police subsequently intensified efforts to track down those allegedly responsible for the murder, leading to the arrest of two suspects.

The suspects were identified as Muhammad Bashir Sale, 20, also known as “Full”, and Musa Sale Ahmad, 18, alias “Abba”, both residents of Wuro Shie Quarters, Gombe.

The police spokesperson said that preliminary investigations showed that the suspects confessed to their involvement in the incident.

He added that a sharp knife was recovered as an exhibit in connection with the investigation.

Abdullahi said the suspects had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Gombe, for further investigation.

Police urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious people, movements and activities to the nearest police formation.

Meanwhile, family members have been thrown into mourning following the death of Aishatu, who is said to have left behind five young children.

Family member Usman Ismaila described her death as a painful loss for the family and those who knew her.
