Yekepa, June 11, 2026: ArcelorMittal Liberia has hired 56 young Liberian artisans as full-time employees after they graduated from the company’s training academy and completed a short-term service period, the company said at a ceremony in Yekepa.
The new employees include plant fitters, electricians, boilermakers, mechanics and other skilled tradespeople.
Chief Executive Officer Michiel Van Der Merwe told the new employees the company expected them to apply their training in ways that benefit the business, the country and their own careers.
He said the recruits should treat the opportunity seriously and make full use of the training they received.
“Now the next step is for you to take the knowledge and execute it to bring value to the company, to Liberia, and to yourselves,” Van Der Merwe said.
Van Der Merwe also urged the new workers to remain engaged in their roles and continue developing professionally.
Samuel Peter, speaking for the group, said the new employees understood the responsibility that comes with their appointment and were prepared to work hard.
“We are ready to serve our country well,” Peter said.
Training Manager Victor Loubser encouraged the employees to continue building their skills and referred to the academy’s “TARGET” framework for work discipline and professional development.
Senior Trainer Jallah Sumoiwud said the new employees would receive support from supervisors and colleagues as they move into operations.
“Your skills, talents, and fresh perspectives are valuable assets that will contribute to the continued growth and success of this company,” Sumoiwud said.
He said starting a new role can be challenging, but added that the workers would have backing from the wider organization.
The hiring marks the latest intake from AML’s training program, which the company says is aimed at increasing the number of skilled Liberians in its workforce.
Company officials said the effort is part of a broader strategy to develop local skills for Liberia’s mining and industrial sectors.
For the new employees, the appointments mark the start of permanent careers with the company.
