The Security Council met on Monday amid a sharp rise in hostilities across Ukraine, with UN officials warning that the war has reached its deadliest point since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022. In a briefing to members, Rosemary DiCarlo, the under-secretary-general for political affairs, said that recent months had seen some of the most widespread airstrikes in the conflict, while the humanitarian toll on civilians continued to rise on both sides of the front line.
