It will be a difficult fight between my son, Joshua, Fury’s father

Tyson Fury’s father has refused to back his son to beat former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

The all-British heavyweight clash will air on Netflix, but both fighters are navigating interim fights and personal milestones before stepping into the ring against each other.

Expressing frustration over the 10-year delay and repeated failures of the fight, John, in a chat with Fight Your Corner, stated that he hopes the fight becomes a reality.

“There are a lot of I’s to dot and T’s to cross, let’s put it that way,” he said. Fight for your corner. “Those fights never start until they fight each other. I want it to happen; I want guys to get the best deal possible. Get as much money as they can and walk away.

“(The result is) 50/50. There is no fucking role between them. A man like Anthony Joshua with that power. Look what he did to Ngannou. He runs a unit. I want this to be the defining fight for both men.

“Win, lose or draw. Behind closed doors, they both had a lot of respect for each other. He’s Tyson’s biggest dance partner. [and they should] Go get all the money you can and walk into the sunset.”

Meanwhile, Joshua invited Fury to face him in the ring after fighting Prenga, following Josuha’s refusal to do so following Fury’s victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov in April.

“Looking at it like that, it’s a very iconic moment,” he told Matchroom while watching a video of Fury demanding to join him in the ring.

“Now I need to get in there and do the job and get the W. Come to Saudi Arabia on July 25 and I’ll welcome you to the ring. If you’re serious, come out and we can talk then.”

“They have put the carrot in front of me saying that if I beat Prenga I can fight Tyson Fury, so I am completely focused on doing the job because that is the fight I dream of.

“It’s a great opportunity for me and this year is a great year for me. Now I know that the fight is signed and sealed, he is more than welcome to step into the ring and he will overcome the last hurdle of 2026.”
