INEC declares Faduyile winner of Ondo South senatorial poll

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Professor Adedayo Faduyile, has been declared the winner of the Ondo South Senate by-election held on Saturday.

Faduyile was elected by the Independent National Electoral Commission at the Okitipupa collation centre, after securing 68,474 votes to defeat candidates of other political parties, including APM, APP and Boot Party.

The polling officer, Prof. Gbenga Ibileye, announced the result, saying the APC candidate met the legal requirements and had the highest number of valid votes cast.

Faduyile, a former National President of the Nigerian Medical Association, is also the Special Adviser on Health to the Ondo State Governor ahead of his election to the Senate.

While details of the vote totals won by the other candidates were not immediately available, the by-election was contested by at least four political parties.

The poll comes amid concerns over low voter turnout and economic hardship raised by some stakeholders ahead of the exercise.
