After the match, the Inter Miami star expressed his joy at having helped the team qualify for the round of 32 of the tournament.
“I am very happy with the victory,” said the 38-year-old Argentine captain.
“It was a very important victory, hard and for which we worked hard and it gives us peace of mind for what is to come.
“I had the penalty that I could have scored. Well, maybe if I had done that, I wouldn’t have scored the others. You never know. But the truth is that today was spectacular. I’m happy with the results because of our participation and teamwork.”
“The truth is that I don’t remember,” he admitted with his characteristic euphemism.
“I’m tired. I don’t have much strength and it’s hard for me to think right now. So I’m enjoying this moment and want to join my colleagues.”

Messi’s first goal, a first-time effort from Facundo Medina’s low cross in the 38th minute, put him level with Brazilian great Marta on 17 World Cup goals between men’s and women’s matches.
He completed his brace five minutes into stoppage time, taking advantage of a growing counterattack to clean up his own rebound and fire low through traffic, setting a new all-time global benchmark of 18 goals for himself.
