Aboh Mbaise’s Silversports Football Club began their 2026 Imo State Football Association League season today with a 3-0 defeat in their opening match of the season against Evermore FC.
The match marked another important step in the club’s grassroots football development journey as the young Silversports team took to the stage to compete in the state championship.
The team, made up largely of secondary school players, was built with a long-term vision of developing young talent through competitive football. The club continued to expose players to more experienced opponents to help them gain confidence, maturity and a better understanding of the game.
Coach Frank Mbata and his technical team remain focused on improving the team throughout the season, with a particular focus on player development and building a solid footballing foundation.
The club’s owner, Kennedy Onwunali, said the project aims to create opportunities for young players to grow and discover their potential and also thanks the Imo State Football Association President, Barrister Ifeanyi Dike, for his support for the team.
“Every match is part of the learning process. These young players are gaining the experience they need to improve and become better footballers,” Onwunali said.
He added that Aboh Mbaise has produced great sporting personalities including Dr Patrick Ekeji, Chidi Nwanu, Chioma Ajunwa, Emmanuel Ariwa, Uche Echeria, Jerry Uche and Circus Ndukwu, underscoring the importance of sustained investment in the development of grassroots sports.
