Nigerian Army Appoints New Governors of Republic – THISAGE

The UN has approved a major reshuffle of senior officers in the Nigerian Army, appointing new commanders for critical operational formations, training institutes and strategic staff positions as part of efforts to strengthen national security and improve the military’s operational effectiveness.

The broad redeployment, announced on Saturday by Acting Director of Army Public Relations Colonel Appolonia Anele, affects general officers commanding (GOCs), brigade commanders, commanders of military institutions and principal staff officers at Army Headquarters.

According to the statement, Major General WM Dangana has been appointed as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 3rd Division of the Nigerian Army and Joint Operation Commander of Task Force ENDURING PEACE, succeeding Major General EF Oyinlola.

Likewise, Major General EI Okoro was appointed as the General Officer Commanding the 6th Division of the Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander of the Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE, replacing Major General EE Emeka.

The reshuffle also saw Major General JR Lar appointed Army Headquarters Garrison Commander, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola takes over as Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brigadier General I Waziri will continue to serve as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff.

As part of efforts to strengthen field operations and improve force readiness, Brigadier General IB Buhari has been appointed Commander of the 63rd Brigade Headquarters, while Brigadier General K Rabiu assumes command of the 31st Artillery Brigade Headquarters.

In a move that reflects the Army’s growing emphasis on technology and modern warfare, Major General SA Emmanuel has been appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command, a strategic formation established to enhance capabilities in the emerging fields of technology-driven warfare and security operations.

Major General O Adegbe was also appointed Director of Intelligence and Security at the Defense Headquarters.

The reshuffle further affects major military training institutions. Major General KE Chigbu has been appointed Deputy Commandant of the National Defense College, while Major General SD Makolo becomes Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armor School.

Major General SO Adejimi has been appointed as the Commandant of the Nigerian Army Supply and Transport School, while Major General FS Etim takes over as the Chief of Training at the Headquarters, Nigerian Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).

Brigadier General U Ahmad was also appointed Commander of Nigerian Army Depot, Zaria.

In Army Corporate Establishments, Major General KO Ukandu has been appointed as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited (PHDL), while Major General AI Allison takes over as Chief Executive Officer of Defense Properties Limited.

Lieutenant General Shaibu urged the newly appointed senior officers to justify the confidence reposed in them through exemplary leadership, professionalism, innovation and unwavering commitment to the constitutional responsibilities of the Nigerian Army.

He charged them to remain focused on defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, safeguarding its territorial integrity and supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security across the country.

The Army said the redeployments are part of its ongoing transformation program aimed at building a highly professional, combat-ready and people-oriented force capable of effectively responding to future and evolving security challenges facing the nation.
