28 year old lieutenant killed during Oyo rescue operation buried

A 28-year-old Nigerian Army Lieutenant, Felix Ademe Isaac, who was killed during the rescue operation of abducted teachers and pupils from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, has been buried.

The deceased was killed while leading troops to rescue the victims who regained freedom on July 10, 2026.

Military sources have confirmed the death of an Army officer, Lieutenant FA Isaac, during the operation that rescued 44 abducted pupils and teachers from Old Oyo National Park.

Born on 25 August 1997, Lieutenant Isaac was buried, with full military honours, in the 23rd Armored Brigade Cemetery in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State.

There are several reports on the officer’s death. While some said his convoy was hit by explosives planted by terrorists in Oyo National Park, others said he came across a landmine planted by Ansaru terrorists identified as the group behind the kidnapping.

Isaac wasn’t the only one to die in the rescue operation that finally yielded results two days ago.

The Nigerian military briefly referred to this in a statement issued after the victims regained their freedom.

“It is sufficient to note that the operations were carefully planned and executed to avoid collateral damage and to equally ensure that innocent children and teachers were safely rescued. However, there were some casualties on the part of the security forces,” the statement said.

Security operatives from more than 10 agencies took part in the operation led by Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife, General Officer Commanding the 2nd Division of the Nigerian Army.
