The Kaduna State Police Command has rescued two kidnapped victims, recovered an AK-47 rifle and arrested 12 suspects during clearance operations in Ikara and Makarfi Local Government Areas.
The command also said four suspected kidnappers were neutralized during an exchange of fire with security operatives in Ikara, while two locally made pistols and three bags of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered during the operations.
In a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, Operation Ikara was conducted at around 5 am on September 16, following credible intelligence.
According to the PPRO, DPO Ikara led police officers, in collaboration with members of the Kaduna Vigilance Service (KADVS), to the residence of one Haruna Yakubu in Yoromowa, Auchanawa village, where they reportedly encountered armed resistance.
The ensuing firefight led to the rescue of two kidnapped victims and the neutralization of four suspected kidnappers identified as Kabiru Haruna, Suleman Abdulkarim, Yusuf Haruna, also known as Burgagau, all from Yoromowa, Auchanawa village and one other suspect.
Police said an AK-47 rifle was recovered during the operation, while 12 suspects were arrested in connection with the alleged criminal activities.
The command listed the suspects as Yahaya Hassan, 60; Usman Hassan, 40; Abdul Muminu Hassan, 35; Jafaru Adamu, 25; Buhari Usman, 25; Usman Bashir, 25; Samaila Yahaya, 25; Awwalu Adamu, 20; Maimuna Haruna, 57; Suhaila Kabiru, 30; Maimuna Yusuf, 30, all from Yoromowa, Auchanawa village, and Hassana Usman, 50, from Yakamalam, Ikara town.
He said the suspects were helping investigators establish their individual roles and the wider network allegedly behind the criminal activities.
In a separate operation on 15 September, DPO Makarfi led police and KADVS personnel in a clearance operation around Arabu Forest Reserve, covering Durum through Nasarawan Doya to the bank of Arabu River, bordering Soba LGA.
During the operation, the security team recovered two locally made pistols, three bags of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and an army camouflage shirt abandoned in the area.
The command said the joint patrolling and clearance operation continues to prevent suspected criminal elements from regrouping or establishing hideouts in the area.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Rabiu, commended the police personnel, KADVS and vigilantes involved in the operations, as well as members of the public whose information contributed to the success.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led clearance operations aimed at dismantling kidnapping networks, rescuing victims and restoring peace across the state.
