The absence of Mrs. Anthonet Izuegbu, a friend of Senator Ned Nwoko’s ex-wife, Regina Daniels, stalled her defamation case filing and allegedly routinely procured, handled and administered controlled and illegal substances to Regina and associated individuals preferred against her.
When the matter before Justice Ekerete Akpan of the Federal High Court, Abuja was arraigned on Thursday, 16 July 2026, the accused who collapsed during the last arraignment was absent in court and the case was accordingly adjourned to 15 September 2026.
Recall that Mrs. Izuegbu also known as “Ann” was arrested for criminal defamation against Senator Nwoko.
Ned Nwoko’s media team, in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said that contrary to misleading and inflammatory narratives circulating on social media platforms, Izuegbu was arrested in connection with a defamation offense against the lawmaker.
The team explained that Izuegbu was arrested in connection with criminally defamatory statements she made publicly, alleging that the lawmaker had physically assaulted his wife, Mrs. Laila Nwoko, causing her to miscarry.
“These claims are completely false as no such incident occurred and no abortion resulted from any alleged violence.
“The statements were made without evidence and are part of a coordinated attempt to bolster previously widespread and unfounded allegations of domestic violence,” the team said.
The team also alleged that Izuegbu was implicated in obtaining an illegal abortion for Regina Daniels, during her legal marriage to Nwoko.
According to the team, the incident occurred after the wedding, despite subsequent attempts to recast the timeline.
“The legality of the act does not change based on narrative adjustments. The matter is documented and has previously been mentioned publicly by the Queen herself,” the statement read.
The team added that a formal witness statement dated October 29, 2025 submitted to the Area Commander, Maitama Police Station, detailed repeated ongoing activities involving Izuegbua and others.
According to the team, the statement noted that Izuegbu allegedly regularly procured, handled and administered controlled and illegal substances to Regina and associated individuals.
The team further alleged that Izuegbu’s arrest was directly preceded by a public social media post in which he allegedly threatened, made derogatory comments and repeated defamatory allegations against Mrs Laila Nwoko and the MP.
“This post constitutes provocation, intimidation and criminal defamation under applicable law.
“It is important to emphasize that this matter is not a social media dispute but a matter of law enforcement based on evidence, testimony and due process.
“Any attempt to mischaracterize arrest as repression or victimization is false and misleading,” the team added.
