Femmco Football Academy Head Coach, Oluwafemi Oladehinde Adebayo, has praised Edo Queens for their impressive campaign in the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifiers, describing the Nigerian champions as deserving winners.
In an exclusive interview with SPORTS247, Oladehinde also applauded Edo Queens head coach Kennedy Boboye for successfully guiding the team to the continental title after taking charge under difficult circumstances.

Boboye took over following the departure of Moses Aduku, who was away on international duty with Nigeria’s national under-20 women’s team, the Super Falconets, during their World Cup campaign in Poland.
According to Oladehinde, Boboye’s ability to deliver immediately despite not being initially prepared for the specific task demonstrates the quality of a good coach.
“”He got the job done despite not being as focused on that mission as he is at Bendel Insurance. “That’s a quality of a good coach,” Oladehinde said.
The Femmco coach believes that Edo Queens’ success was also based on solid preparation as the team strengthened its squad after the conclusion of the domestic league season.
“Edo Queens prepared well and also improved their legs after the league season,” Oladehinde noted, pointing out the importance of recruitment and preparation ahead of a demanding continental campaign.
Edo Queens finally justified their status as representatives of Nigeria by beating Ampem Darkoa of Ghana in a dramatic final. The match ended 2-2 after normal time, before the Nigerian champions held on and won 4-1 on penalties.
The win secured Edo Queens the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League playoff crown and further underlined the growing strength of women’s football in Nigeria.
For Oladehinde, success was a combination of preparation, quality signings and effective coaching and Boboye deserves special credit for shouldering the responsibility seamlessly and achieving the desired result.
As Edo Queens celebrate their continental success, their achievement also marks another encouraging sign of Nigeria’s growing competitiveness in women’s football at the regional level.
