Wolves cancel and reschedule training after stalemate with Arokodare

Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers were forced to cancel a first team training session on Monday after Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare allegedly refused to leave the training ground following the instructions of the club’s new manager, Cesar Peixoto.

Arokodare reportedly insisted on remaining with the first team after being informed by Peixoto that he would not be training with the senior squad.

The disagreement disrupted the club’s preparations for the new league season, forcing Wolves to abandon planned training.

Security has increased

Reports have indicated that the club have introduced additional security measures at Compton Park to prevent the 25-year-old striker from accessing first-team facilities following the clash.

Arokodare was also left out of the squad scheduled to travel to Maidenhead for a pre-season friendly later in the day.

The Nigerian striker was previously left out of Wolves’ training camp in Portugal before receiving a late invite following an injury to fellow striker Adam Armstrong.

The latest developments have intensified speculation over the player’s future at Molineux.

Previous disciplinary problems

Arokodare’s relationship with the club had already come under scrutiny towards the end of last season.

In April, the striker faced disciplinary action after being involved in a physical altercation with teammate Mateus Mane following Wolves’ 4-0 Premier League defeat to West Ham United.

Although both players later shared messages of support on social media in an apparent attempt to calm tensions, the incident raised concerns about harmony in the dressing room.

The Nigeria international endured a difficult season as Wolves were relegated from the Premier League, scoring three league goals during the season.

Peixoto demands discipline

Peixoto, who took charge of Wolves in June after leaving Portuguese club Gil Vicente, has repeatedly stressed that discipline, intensity and responsibility will define his tenure.

Speaking shortly after his appointment, the Portuguese coach described himself as a demanding manager who expects maximum effort from his players.

He said he wants a team capable of playing with aggressiveness, intensity and offensive determination while maintaining discipline both on and off the field.

“I want a team with ambition, a strong character and identity,” Peixoto said.

“I want to win matches by playing good football with passion and energy.”

The incident involving Arokodare appears to represent one of the first major disciplinary challenges the new manager has to face.

Transfer uncertainty

Arokodare is also believed to be frustrated by the uncertainty surrounding his future.

Reports suggest a proposed loan move to Italian club Torino is stalled, while Serie A side Genoa have also made inquiries about the striker.

The lack of progress regarding the transfer is believed to have contributed to increased tensions between the player and the club.

With the summer transfer window still open, Arokodare’s future at Wolves remains uncertain.

FIFA rules in the spotlight

The incident also attracted attention due to rules recently introduced by FIFA aimed at protecting players from unfair isolation by clubs.

The new rules, agreed with global players’ union FIFPRO and introduced in June, ban clubs from excluding players from first-team training only to push them to leave.

Under the regulations, clubs found guilty of such practices could face sporting or financial sanctions unless there are legitimate sporting reasons for excluding a player.

The regulations were introduced following growing concerns over the treatment of unwanted players at several European clubs.

Neither Wolverhampton Wanderers nor Arokodare representatives had officially commented on the latest incident at the time of filing this report.
