The Group urges young Africans to embrace entrepreneurship and responsible leadership

Face of Liberty International urged young Africans to take more responsibility in addressing the development challenges facing their countries, rather than relying solely on governments and political institutions.

The organization’s executive director, Leonard Ogunweide, made the call during the virtual graduation ceremony of the first cohort of its 2026 Free Market Fellowship.

The 10-week fellowship, which attracted participants from several African countries, was designed to equip emerging leaders with leadership and civic education, while exposing them to ideas about human dignity, personal responsibility, free markets, entrepreneurship, public policy, livelihoods and effective communication.

Speaking at the event, Ogunweide said Africa’s development will depend on the ability of citizens to transform ideas, knowledge, skills and available resources into productive value.

“Potential alone is never enough. A large youth population does not automatically create progress. Leadership is a decision to take responsibility for creating something better,” he said.

He added that sustainable prosperity could only be achieved in an environment where people are free to start businesses, enjoy property rights and take responsibility for improving their lives.
