The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Hon. Usman Shehu Bawa (ABG), has condemned the killing of 30 residents of Naridon community in Kauru Local Government Area, describing the attack as a horrific act that requires urgent and decisive action by the government and security agencies.
In a statement released on Monday, the ABG expressed shock at the midnight assault, during which gunmen reportedly killed innocent men, women and children, also destroying homes and displacing several families. Project reports
The PDP flag bearer, speaking on behalf of himself, his family and the party in Kaduna State, described the killings as senseless, insisting that there could be no justification for the deaths of innocent people.
“Attack on Humanity”
According to him, the incident was not only an attack on the people of Naridon, but also an attack on the collective humanity of Nigerians and the constitutional right of citizens to live in peace, security and dignity.
He lamented the recurring attacks on communities across Kaduna State, saying the continued loss of innocent lives has become unacceptable.
The ABG said Kaduna could no longer continue to witness repeated attacks on its communities while criminal elements operated with impunity.
He calls for decisive government action
The PDP governorship candidate called on the Federal Government, Kaduna State Government and security agencies to go beyond expressions of sympathy by taking concrete measures to stop the cycle of violence.
He urged the immediate deployment of additional security personnel to Kauru Local Government Area and other vulnerable communities, saying a stronger security presence was needed to prevent further attacks and reassure residents.
The ABG also called for a thorough investigation into the Naridon killings, calling on security agencies to track down those responsible and ensure they are arrested and prosecuted.
According to him, bringing the perpetrators to justice would serve as a deterrent against future attacks.
Assistance to victims
The opposition politician appealed for urgent humanitarian support for the survivors, injured and families displaced by the attack.
He noted that many residents have lost relatives, homes and livelihoods, stressing that they need immediate aid and assistance from the government.
Supports community safety
The ABG also supported the strengthening of community-based security structures to complement the efforts of conventional security agencies.
He urged traditional rulers, including emirs, chiefs and village heads, to strengthen local intelligence gathering by ensuring that visitors to their communities are properly identified and documented.
He explained that the proposal is not intended to encourage profiling but to promote accountability, bottom-up vigilance and stronger collaboration between communities and security agencies.
According to him, traditional institutions should be properly empowered and integrated into efforts to protect rural communities from criminal attacks.
Invite calm
While extending its condolences to the families of those killed, the ABG prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured and urged residents of Kauru Local Government Area and the wider Kaduna Southern Region to remain peaceful.
He warned against retaliation and encouraged citizens to continue to support legitimate efforts to restore peace and security.
The PDP gubernatorial candidate stressed that the Naridon tragedy should serve as a wake-up call to authorities, reminding governments at all levels that protection of lives and property remains their primary constitutional responsibility.
