Benue university student arrested after allegedly pouring hot water on roommate

A 500 level student of Father Moses Adasu University, formerly Benue State University, has been arrested by police after she allegedly poured hot water on her 200 level colleague following a disagreement.

The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, August 28, 2026 at the student residence in Benue State.

The state police public relations officer, DSP Peter Aondongu, confirmed the arrest on Saturday, saying the command had launched an investigation to establish what led to the altercation between the two students.

According to him, preliminary information indicated that the two students were living in the same room before the disagreement escalated.

He said the suspect would boil water, mix it with salt and pepper and pour the mixture on the victim before locking him in the room.

Aondongu said other people then learned of the incident, intervened and saved the victim, who was later taken to hospital for treatment.

He said the suspect was arrested and remained in police custody while the investigation continued.

“Yes, it happened yesterday, Friday 28 August 2026.

“From the information I have, both students were staying in the same room and had a problem. The suspect allegedly boiled water, added salt and pepper, and poured the mixture on the victim, then locked him inside.

“After some time, people realized what had happened and were able to intervene and save the victim. He was later taken to hospital for treatment, while the suspect was arrested,” the police spokesperson said.

Aondongu, however, said police were yet to establish the full circumstances of the disagreement.

He added that both students were students of the university.

The victim was identified as Rose, a 200-level political science student, while the alleged attacker was identified as Felicia.

Students’ union president Akighirga Vitalis, who visited the hospital with members of its executive, said Rose told the union that a disagreement between her and Felicia had preceded the alleged attack.

Vitalis said the students lived together before personal disagreements reportedly strained their relationship.

He condemned the incident, describing the alleged attack as a serious attack on the safety and well-being of a fellow student.

“We are deeply concerned about this incident. The Students’ Union will follow the matter closely until justice prevails,” he said.

The union president said the student body would cooperate with the police and other relevant authorities by monitoring investigations and any disciplinary proceedings by the university.

He said if the allegations against Felicia were established through due process, the union would support appropriate sanctions in line with the institution’s regulations.

“The Students Union will not condone violence or any conduct capable of endangering the life of another student,” Vitalis added.

The police investigation is expected to clarify the circumstances that sparked the disagreement and the events that led to the alleged assault.
