Osimhen, injured, aims for the return of the UEFA Champions League against Sporting Lisbon

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is hoping to return to action when Galatasaray face Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League next week.

Osimhen was injured during Galatasaray’s 3-2 away win against Istanbul Başakşehir on Friday, forcing him to leave the match in the first half.

The injury has raised concerns over his availability for the Turkish champions’ next European match, but the Nigerian striker remains optimistic about recovering in time.

Osimhen remains confident

Speaking after the setback, Osimhen said he did not want to take unnecessary risks with his fitness but would like to play against Sporting Lisbon if cleared by the technical and medical staff.

“I have nothing, I didn’t want to risk it. If our coach deems it appropriate for the Sporting Lisbon match, I want to be on the pitch,” Osimhen said.

His statements suggest that the striker is keen to continue playing a key role for Galatasaray, especially as the club prepares for an important Champions League fixture.

Galatasaray evaluate injuries

Galatasaray confirmed that Osimhen underwent further medical tests, including an MRI, to establish the extent of the injury.

The Turkish champions are expected to monitor his recovery closely before deciding whether he will be fit enough to face Sporting Lisbon.

The club is unlikely to bring the striker back if medical assessments indicate it could worsen the injury.

Key player for Galatasaray

Osimhen has become an important attacking figure for Galatasaray since his permanent move to the club.

His pace, physical strength and ability to score have made him an important part of the Turkish team’s attacking plans, particularly in European competitions.

His potential return against Sporting Lisbon would therefore provide a significant boost to Galatasaray as they continue their Champions League campaign.

For now, the club will await further medical tests before making a final decision on the Nigerian international’s availability for the match.
