The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate of Ogun State, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has revealed that the late veteran actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, would be appointed as his Special Adviser on Tourism and Culture if he emerged governor in the 2027 elections.
Yayi disclosed this on Tuesday during a condolence visit to the late actor’s family in Ilaro, Ogun State.
The senator described Ogogo as an elder brother and lauded his contribution to Yoruba drama, culture and preservation of heritage.
Yayi reveals the plan for the late actor
Yayi said he had already planned to make Ogogo a member of his cabinet because of his experience and knowledge of the cultural heritage of Ogun State.
He said: “I told God that if I am destined to become governor, my elder brother Ogogo will be my special advisor on tourism and culture. My plan was that he would be a special advisor and a member of the cabinet. I kept it on my chest; as I walked with it I believed that God would do.”
“And the reasons are not far-fetched. He is good at what he does as an actor, as a traditional person, as a cultured person. What else do I want? Man proposes, God disposes.”
Yayi cries Ogogo
Ogogo, whose real name was Taiwo Hassan, died on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after battling stage four cancer.
Yayi had earlier described the actor’s death as a monumental loss to the creative and entertainment industry, stressing that Ogogo was not only a celebrated actor but also a proud son of Ilaro.
The senator recalled Ogogo’s contribution to Yoruba language cinema and his impact on generations of Nigerians across his decades-long career.
“We did everything humanly possible”
Yayi also recalled the difficult period of Ogogo’s illness, saying he and others supported the actor and his family and made efforts to ensure he received medical treatment.
Yayi said: “We did everything humanly possible to ensure that he received the necessary medical care. Unfortunately, despite all efforts, God Almighty wanted to call him home.”
He praised the late actor’s talent, humility and commitment to his craft, commiserating with his family, friends, colleagues and the people of Ilaro.
Ogogo was buried in Ilaro, Ogun State, after Islamic funeral rites.
His death continued to attract tributes from colleagues, political leaders, fans and other Nigerians, who described him as one of the important figures of Yoruba cinema.
