The RCMP is highlighting the dangers of riding electric motorbikes illegally by releasing a new video featuring a young rider.
A BC Highway Patrol officer spotted the e-bike rider as he ran a stop sign and nearly collided with a car before fleeing.
It happened on August 28 along Grand Boulevard in North Vancouver.
Police believe the driver is between 14 and 18 years old. The driver’s face is blurred due to requirements of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
They say there is a disturbing new trend in which young drivers try to “lure” officers into giving chases.
“We have seen instances where people riding electric motorbikes or small gas-powered motorbikes, who are clearly underage, driving in front of our police officers, looking back and trying to encourage them to give chase,” Sgt. Michael McLaughlin of the BC Highway Patrol told Global News.

“Our officers are highly trained and they are too focused on safety to do this, but this behavior has to stop… We simply cannot allow young people to put themselves and others at risk with this dangerous and ridiculous behavior.”
Police said the electric motorbikes were only for off-road use because they had no pedals, no signal lights and no number plates.
Corporal. Mike Kalanj of the Burnaby RCMP said there was no indication the driver was baiting police officers in this case.
Our officers advised the motorist to pull over via loudspeaker, to which the motorist responded by raising a finger at our officers and speeding off,” he said in an email.
“Our officers quickly determined it was unsafe to continue and turned off their emergency equipment and returned to the previous call.”
