TORONTO – “Eve of Toronto” has a follow-up. And it brings a lot of color to the walls of Blue Jays manager John Schneider’s office.
Star pitcher Dylan Cease’s latest artistic output – it could be called “Tom Selleck” given the large letters of the actor’s name spread across the canvas – was hung Friday afternoon in the same spot as his previous painting.
“I wonder, why Tom Selleck?” Schneider said in his pregame media availability before the Blue Jays played the Baltimore Orioles at Rogers Center. “And he said something about his mustache, and people said it looked like Tom Selleck’s mustache.

Cease, the ace of Toronto’s pitching staff, started painting in 2022. His work “Eve of Toronto” took him to the Art Gallery of Ontario last month.
The gallery displays his work in its central atrium. A limited edition retail collection was also launched that includes prints, postcards, shirts and tote bags, with proceeds going to charity.
When the original painting was removed from Schneider’s office for display, a replacement print was taped to the wall. It features several images along with a line of text – ‘That painting was a gift, Todd’ – from the movie “Wedding Crashers.”
The new artwork, including a card that says “On Loan from Cease Gallery,” includes dozens of bright flowers surrounding colorful letters.
“He just changed it, which was good,” Schneider said. “I didn’t ask for it, but I showed up after the game and it was there.”
“I never thought I would have Tom Selleck’s name in my office,” he added. “Such is life in 2026.”
Cease, 30, signed a seven-year, $210 million contract with the Blue Jays last winter. He has a 10-5 record and a 2.40 earned run average over 27 starts this season.
