The Kano governor is happy that Gwarzo will emerge as chancellor of the Hausa community in Europe

The Hausa community in Europe has appointed Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo as its Chancellor, in recognition of his contribution to the promotion of the culture, language and well-being of the Hausa communities in Europe.

The appointment was announced by the Emir of the Hausa community in Europe, Alhaji Surajo Jankado, during the International Hausa Day celebration held in Paris, France.

Speaking at the event, the Emir described the appointment as a significant step towards strengthening the unity and development of the Hausa community in Europe.

In his acceptance speech, Professor Gwarzo expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Hausa community for deeming him worthy of the position, committing to work with stakeholders to promote the Hausa language, culture, identity and unity among the Hausa people in Europe.

He said the new responsibility will provide the opportunity to contribute to initiatives aimed at preserving Hausa heritage and ensuring younger generations remain connected to their language, culture and values.

Professor Gwarzo also called for greater cooperation between Hausa communities in European countries, stressing the importance of unity, education and cultural preservation.

The International Hausa Day celebration brought together members of the Hausa community, traditional leaders, academics, cultural advocates and other stakeholders to celebrate the language, culture and heritage of the Hausa people.

During the event, Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by his spokesperson Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, described the appointment of Prof Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo as meritorious in view of his service to the community both in Europe and back home in Nigeria.

The Governor congratulated Prof. Adamu Gwarzo along with Minister of Education Prof. Suwaiba Ahmed, Permanent Representative of Nigeria to UNESCO Dr. Hajjo Sani and Alaja Mufeedah Folashade Bola Tunubu (Iyaloja) who were in turbans at the International Hausa Day 2026 in Paris.
