The Allied People’s Movement (APM) in Nasarawa State has replaced its state president, Engr. Mohammed Auwal and adopted Senator Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo as its governorship candidate for the 2027 elections.
The statement was made during a special conference of the party in Lafia on Saturday.
The party said the replacement occurred in accordance with the provisions of the electoral law to replace nominated candidates who withdrew from the race.
Onawo, who currently represents Nasarawa South Senatorial District in the Senate, contested the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship primaries and lost to Major General Nuhu Angbazo rtd, leading to his defection to the APM.
During the affirmation process, a motion was put forward by one party member, Ahmed Dogara, seconded by another member Shehu Giza, and subsequently through a voice vote of party members.
Speaking after the statement, Nasarawa APM governorship candidate, Onawo, expressed enthusiasm and commended the former candidate for finding him worthy of giving up his mandate, and pledged to bring new development in the state.
Earlier, the state president of APM, Engr. Auwal, explained that his decision to resign from the contest was in the interest and development of the state.
