Joshua Oladeji made his long-awaited Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) debut for Nasarawa United on Wednesday, but the milestone was tempered by disappointment as the Solid Miners suffered a 2-1 defeat to Kwara United.
In the matchday five match of the Euromatch NPFL, played at the Rashidi Yekini Main Bowl at the George Innih Stadium, Ilorin, Oladeji made his first start in the NPFL since joining Nasarawa United from Crown FC last season.
The goalkeeper has worked his way up the ranks of the Nigerian National League (NNL), having previously played for Ekiti United, Warri Wolves and Crown FC, before earning his move to the Solid Miners.
Despite the defeat, the debut represents a great moment in Oladeji’s career as he finally got the chance to play between the sticks for Nasarawa United in the top flight.
Oladeji was understandably disappointed with the result, especially as he felt Nasarawa United had done enough to leave Ilorin with at least a point.
However, the goalkeeper also expressed his happiness at finally making his NPFL debut and is now hoping to build on the experience as he continues his journey with the Solid Miners.
With the season still in its early stages, Oladeji will look to use the opportunity as a springboard to establish himself in goal for Nasarawa United.
