Ilenikhena is excited to be part of Super Eagles

George Ilenikhena is relishing the opportunity to represent the Super Eagles and is looking forward to making his first appearance for the three-time African champions.

The 20-year-old Al-Ittihad striker received his first invitation to the national team from coach Éric Chelle ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

Ilenikhena excited to begin Super Eagles journey

Speaking at a press conference in Uyo, Ilenikhena described his invitation as a great honor and expressed his pride in being part of the national team at this stage of his career.

“It is an honor to be here. I am proud and happy to be part of this great national team, and for me it is something very important,” he said.

“I’m only 20 years old and I’m here with big, successful players.

“The team spirit is very good. I arrived yesterday (Tuesday) and I can see that everyone is together like a big family, and that is very good.”

Ready to shine

The Super Eagles will begin their qualification campaign against Barea of ​​Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday.

Ilenikhena is hoping to make his debut and is willing to contribute whenever he gets the chance.

“I am very excited. I will give my best, as always. I will give my best when the coach puts me on the field and I will help the team in the best way I can,” Ilenikhena added.

“We are ready and excited to play this first game and we are preparing in the best way to win on Friday.”
