Couples from St. John the Beloved Apostle Parish, Greenland Estate, Enugu RCC Quarters, participated in a transformative social-emotional learning session on healthy marriages and mental well-being facilitated by Coach Ebere Amaraizu
Organized by the Catholic Women Organization as part of their post-August 2026 meeting, the session was themed _Building emotionally intelligent homes for sustainable development_.
Going beyond rhetoric, poetry, or campaigns, Coach Amaraizu has provided hands-on, practical tools anchored in key SEL skills, including discussing limiting beliefs, emotional regulation, nonjudgmental communication, active listening, and communicating with empathy to help couples transform challenges into purpose.
Participants explored five pillars of a thriving marriage: fighting fairly without cruelty, regulating rather than escalating the situation, understanding beyond words, repairing quickly after conflict, and staying connected even under stress. The session also x-rayed the effects of a lack of emotional security on the care and development of children and how to build emotionally safe homes.
An interactive question-and-answer session provided more in-depth information, with participants saying that involvement helped them discover a better version of themselves for better, happier homes. They thanked Coach Amaraizu for great insight and practical tools for emotional safety.
In his closing statement, Coach Amaraizu noted, “Love unites two nervous systems, not just two hearts. Love starts a relationship, but emotional intelligence sustains it.”
