Anthony Joshua exercises in gruesome workout with ‘ancient stretching technique’

Nigerian-born former two-time world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua has stepped up his training routine with some gruesome exercises ahead of his much-anticipated grudge match with fellow Brit Tyson Fury later this year.

Sports247 gathered that, in order not to be caught off guard by the very tough Fury during their much-anticipated fight in December, Joshua has resorted to an age-old method of stretching his body to the limit, while staying in top shape.

Joshua, who has always been known for engaging in tough physical exercises during training, stays fit for the clash with the help of an antique stretching machine, as the countdown gets closer to his epic fight in Cardiff, Wales, on December 11.

With the fight venue finally pulled from Madison Square Garden in New York, USA, after Joshua’s camp stood firm on holding it in the UK, the London 2012 Olympics gold medalist wants to make the most of the chance to tread familiar ground.

Before Cardiff was finally chosen, both boxers continued to express contrasting views and exchange hostile banter but, with the issue now resolved, Joshua shared a video of himself hooked up to a modern version of an ancient body stretching and suspension kit.

A report from the UK’s SunSport adds: “In medieval times, Slavic warriors and martial artists used a version of the machine to strengthen their tendons and open their joints to stay ready for combat.

“Joshua appears to be just that after the grueling apparatus contorted his limbs and back. At one point in the video, AJ was suspended in the air by his arms and legs (then) effortlessly rotating his core and lower back almost 180 degrees.”

Sports247 further reports that it now remains to be seen whether the unorthodox fitness technique would be good enough to not only keep ‘AJ’ in tip-top shape but also build his staying power, ahead of what could well be a long night on the ropes with ‘The Gypsy King’.
