Moghalu rejected the nomination to be on Atiku’s campaign team

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, rejected the inclusion of his name on the list of members of Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential campaign council policy team.

Moghalu, in a statement, said the inclusion of his name on the list came as a surprise to him, as he had not been consulted, nor had he agreed to serve in any capacity on the council.

Atiku, who is running for president in 2027 under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), announced the composition of his campaign board on Thursday, with Moghalu listed as a member of the policy team led by Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

Responding to this, Moghalu, who was once a presidential candidate, said that he was not consulted or gave his consent before his name was published as a member of the ADC presidential candidate’s policy team.

Moghalu stressed that he was not part of Atiku’s policy team, either officially or unofficially, and did not serve as an adviser to the former vice president.

He also said he has stayed away from partisan politics since 2022 and remains politically neutral.

“I am not a member or sympathizer of any political party in Nigeria,” he said.

The former CBN deputy governor explained that he is currently focused on leading the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET) Africa, a non-partisan public policy think tank and executive education academy.

He also served as Chief Executive Officer at Sogato Strategies, a geopolitical risk and regulatory strategy advisory firm.

“I remain committed to my country, Nigeria, and its progress, but that commitment does not have to mean partisanship. I have taken the path of statesmanship, not partisanship,” he said.
