The GOC of the Army tasked the new Oyo and Osun formations on discipline and professional conduct

The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, has directed personnel of the new formations in Oyo and Osun states to maintain discipline and uphold high professional standards in the performance of their duties.

Mahmuda gave the directive while inspecting the newly formed 7 Brigade Headquarters in Oyo State and 137 Battalion in Ile-Ife, Osun State, during a visit aimed at assessing their readiness and ensuring the smooth commencement of operations.

This was stated by the Acting Deputy Director of Public Relations, Division 2 TNI, Lt. Col. Jonah Danjuma in his statement to media crews, Friday in Ibadan.

According to Danjuma, the GOC urged its troops to remain disciplined, proactive and aware of the responsibilities attached to their deployment.

Mahmuda warned his personnel against actions that could undermine public confidence in the Nigerian Army, and stressed the need to protect the image and reputation of the institution.

He also emphasized that unprofessional actions will not be tolerated.

“The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, always hopes for example,” said Mahmuda.

The Army Chief further stressed the need for troops to maintain positive civil-military relations with residents in their host communities.

He explained that the formation of the new formation was part of the Nigerian Army’s response to emerging security challenges and was intended to strengthen its operational presence.

“The Nigerian Army has done a lot to improve the welfare of the troops, demonstrating the COAS Army First Concept.

“You must respond to such actions by remaining committed to your duties and rejecting the freedom of action of criminal elements,” the spokesperson quoted the GOC as saying.

Danjuma said Mahmuda was received in Ile-Ife by 137 Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Christopher Okwujiako.

The GOC’s visit provided an opportunity to inspect new facilities and assess formation readiness as they commence operations in their respective areas of responsibility.

Community leaders in Ile-Ife also welcomed the formation of the 137th Battalion.

The leaders led by Sooko Adegboyega Ogunwusi, Sooko Laukun of Ife, expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Army for establishing a battalion in the town.

The Army said the visit was part of Mahmuda’s broader assessment of newly established locations, with an emphasis on ensuring that personnel can settle in quickly and begin effective execution of their constitutional responsibilities.
