The real reason APC is desperate for power —Galadima

Chairman of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) Buba Galadima says the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is desperate to retain power because they are afraid of what will happen to them after.

Speaking on Symfoni TV, Galadima said that the APC in its desperation to retain power, can “do anything” because its members know what they will face if they lose power.

“In the desperation that the APC is in, they can do anything to return to power, because they know what the consequences will be if they lose power; what they have done to the people will be detrimental to them.”

He also said the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, was “paying for what he did to others” during his time in power, adding that the former governor was facing consequences for some of his past actions against others.

“El-Rufai himself is the one paying for his actions against other people, I’m sure. But that doesn’t mean the issues that led to his detention were politically motivated. Why did they arrest him?” he asked.

He recalled warning former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai that he might be jailed because of the way he carried himself.

Galadima said he visited NDC presidential running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso and asked him to stop El-Rufai from returning to Nigeria from Egypt after he was indicted.

He said: “Tinubu and his people are ungrateful when it comes to El-Rufai. I am not a friend of El-Rufai.

“In fact, I advised him that he should be careful in his behavior, he should be exiled or they would put him in prison.

“I went to Kwankwaso and told Kwankwaso that he should beg El-Rufai not to come back. These people don’t mean him well.”

El-Rufai was initially arrested and detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission, ICPC, on 18 February 2026 after arriving in Nigeria from Egypt.

He faces several additional charges, re-arrest, detention by the ICPC and the Department of State Services, DSS, related to corruption, contract fraud, cyber crimes, and phone tapping charges involving the National Security Adviser, NSA, Nuhu Ribadu.

On May 18, an Abuja Federal High Court presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted him bail of N100 million, in a case filed by the DSS.

El-Rufai remains in custody due to his inability to fulfill the strict bail granted by Judge Abdulmalik.
