2027: INEC warns of fake gubernatorial candidate lists in 6 states

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned of a fake list of gubernatorial candidates for six states that it said came from online circulation.

The commission, in a post on X’s account on Monday, asked members of the public to stop sharing the list.

The statement read: “The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to a false publication circulating online and purporting to be a special announcement by the Commission on matters affecting the list of gubernatorial candidates in six states: Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe and Kano.

“The Commission wishes to inform the general public that the publication is FAKE and does not originate from INEC.

“Therefore, INEC urges the public to ignore such false publications and refrain from spreading them. The public is advised to rely only on official notifications, press releases and other information issued through the Commission’s verified communication channels.”

It further clarified that any information stating that INEC had issued specific announcements regarding gubernatorial candidates in these states is untrue, and urged the public to avoid being misled by false or fraudulent publications.
