Divisional Police Officers of the Abuloma Police Division in Rivers State, and other senior officers have landed in trouble, after suspected cultists renovated a police station under their supervision.
The two men were removed from their posts following a viral video showing the cult suspect visiting the facility on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to celebrate the completion of renovations.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, announced the development in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Friday by the command spokesperson, Blessing Agabe.
The statement titled ‘River State Police Command Condemns Purported Renovation of Abuloma Police Post by Cult Suspects, Relieves Officers, Orders Full Investigation’, stated that the command had ordered a full investigation into the incident.
The command condemns any action or association that could compromise the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigerian Police or lend legitimacy, recognition or acceptance to suspected cult groups or other unlawful organizations.
The police image maker said Adepoju had ordered a full-scale investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the renovation and the veracity of the allegations.
The identities and backgrounds of individuals or groups funding or facilitating the renovations will also be investigated, as well as the role of police personnel.
The statement read, “The Rivers State Police Command has taken cognizance of trending social media reports and circulating videos alleging that suspected cultists renovated the Abuloma Police Station and visited the facility on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to celebrate the completion of the renovation.

“The Command strongly condemns any act or association that could jeopardize the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigerian Police or lend legitimacy, recognition or acceptance to suspected cult groups or other unlawful organizations.
“Police facilities are public institutions established to protect citizens and enforce the law and should not be a platform for criminal groups to seek public recognition or influence.
“Under the leadership of CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, the Command has zero tolerance for criminality and any action that undermines public confidence in the Police.
“Consequently, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Abuloma Division and the Divisional Officer supervising the affected Police Posts have been questioned and relieved of duty pending investigations.
“Furthermore, the Police Commissioner has ordered a full investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and the veracity of the allegations, including the identity and background of the individuals or groups who funded or facilitated the renovation.”
The statement added that the investigation will examine whether the project was permitted, whether applicable procedures were followed, and whether any police officers violated professional standards or compromised the integrity of the police force.
It said, “The Command welcomes legitimate public support to upgrade police facilities, in accordance with Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigerian Police Act of 2020, which provides for gifts and contributions to the Police General Fund.
“However, such support must not compromise police independence, professional standards or security.
“The investigation will determine whether the necessary approvals have been obtained and appropriate checks carried out on those who funded or facilitated the renovations.
“No donation or assistance provides immunity from investigation or prosecution.
“The command reiterates that it will not condone unprofessional conduct, compromise or any form of inappropriate association with criminal elements by any police officer.
“All personnel are expected to uphold the highest standards of discipline, integrity and accountability in carrying out their duties.”
The command said appropriate disciplinary and legal action will be taken against anyone found guilty, in line with the results of the investigation and existing laws.
He urged the public to remain calm and continue to provide credible and timely information to the police to enhance security across Rivers State.
In the viral video, the suspected cultists appear to be disguised as students, occasionally shouting “Nigeria’s greatest students” before using slogans that appear to be associated with the cult.
The perpetrators wore black trousers and white shirts, some wore red fez hats and others wore black berets. They were seen celebrating in front of the renovated facility with several police officers.
Popular online anti-cult platform, Naija Confra, also posted videos and images showing the suspected cultists shouting slogans, including “Aromate”, at the station on Thursday, shortly after posing for photos with officers at the facility.
It was gathered that October 15th was the annual commemoration of the Viking brotherhood.
Cultists reportedly renovated a police station in Rivers State, Nigeria.
