Plateau United head coach Gbenga Ogunbote said his team had a bad day, following their 3-2 home loss to Sporting Lagos, in week 9 of the EUROMATCH NPFL on Sunday.
Sporting Lagos ends perfect record at home to Plateau United
The Jos-based team suffered their first home defeat of this season’s campaign, having won all four of their home games heading into Sunday’s fixture.
Ogunbote’s team went into the break with a 2-1 lead thanks to a double from Victor Dawa, canceling out Aliyu Baba’s first goal for Sporting Lagos in the 10th minute.
In the 53rd minute, Victor Samuel made it 2-2 and, with 10 minutes left, Plateau United was left with 10 men.
Sporting Lagos took advantage of the man advantage and scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute thanks to Aondona Adeede.
With the victory, Sporting Lagos (15 points) moved up one place above Plateau United (14 points) to third place in the league standings.

“I think it was difficult for us, I won’t say complacency because the boys gave their best, unfortunately we lost the lead and things fell apart,” Ogunbote said in his post-match press conference.
“The only thing is that today we had a bad day, but we will take the positive to tell us that it is a lesson for us to prepare.”
Thoughts on Lagos sport
Ogunbote praised Sporting Lagos and admitted that they were at their best.
“Sometimes one match is not enough, but they (Sporting Lagos) did very well, today they were at their best.”
Wake up call
He added that the loss would serve as a wake-up call for his team.
“This is week nine, unfortunately, no one wanted to lose the game, but we lost. Even a draw would have been considered a loss for us. But like I said, it’s good that it happened early so we all woke up and knew we weren’t there yet.”
