Flamencos beat Puerto Rico 2-0

Nigeria Flamingos head coach Akeem Busari explained how his team was able to overcome Puerto Rico in their second Group B match of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2026 in Morocco on Tuesday.

After suffering a 2-1 loss to Poland in their first match, the Flamingos defeated debutants Puerto Rico 2-0, to get their campaign back on track.

Oluwakemi Adegbuyi opened the scoring in the 25th minute before substitute Precious Oscar sealed the victory in the 93rd minute.

Speaking after the victory, Busari said: “It was a great victory because Puerto Rico knew it was a game that would decide their destiny, so it was a very difficult game for both sides. We couldn’t take advantage of our opportunities in the first half, fortunately we got the second goal towards the end of the second half, but it was a very difficult game, they are not pressing.

“As a coach, when you are down, you look at it and think how are you going to come back, it’s all about mentality and these are young players, so all they need is advice and what to do and today they were exceptional, they were calmer than in the Poland game.”

The Flemings will now face group leaders North Korea, who have already qualified for the round of 16 thanks to a 6-1 win over Poland on Tuesday.

The game between the Flamingos and North Korea begins on Friday, October 23.
