The PRP warned the APC against alleged plans to weaken the party and weaken the opposition coalition

The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) said it has uncovered an alleged plot by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to topple him and stir up rancor among his party thereby damaging its electoral fortunes.

The party in a statement on Tuesday by its national chairman, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, alleged that attempts were being made to “recruit poll workers for the party by people who do not have the authority to do so”.

The statement read in part, “It is now clear that there were attempts being made to use some subversive and reprehensible former members of the party to create the appearance of division within the party, as well as using strategically placed party officials to weaken the party and sabotage grassroots support. These attempts were attributed to senior members of the ruling party who were persuaded to fund this scheme with hundreds of millions of naira.

“The party hereby warns its members and the public of these efforts and warns against the temptation to support these subversive elements.

“In particular, attempts to recruit poll workers for the Party made by people who do not have the authority to do so must be rejected. Large sums of money may be available to purchase members’ support for opposition candidates by party officials. These attempts must be rejected and exposed. Persons in the ruling party who are involved in these schemes have been advised to avoid PRPs and distance themselves from attempts to create fictitious PRAs with their party funds and names. Arts officers involved in these schemes will face disciplinary action.

“The PRP leadership wishes to reassure its candidates and party supporters that they will not compromise their commitment and loyalty in any way. The party is committed to providing a fitting challenge to the continuity of this government beyond 2027, as well as its role in building a potentially winning coalition.”
