It’s good to see people with voice and platforms speak about some the nonsense going on in our country, but it’s interesting when they do it to give themselves free publicity and promote their artworks. If I’m correct Shaggy has a new EP or album or single he is promoting.
Yeah, they don’t speak up because they want a change, and even when these artistes/celecrities are directly affected by the rubbish system, the government often (not always) compensate them behind the scenes, and they either go silent or enter sycophancy mode.
As long as Nigerians will not seriously challenge the government when they allocate measly amount to the ministry of health from the national budget, our life expectancy will continue to plummet and our basic survival will continue to depend on “miracles” , “signs” and “wonders”. And those who magically survive near death events would rub their testimonies on the faces of the less fortunate ones.
I’ll end it here, before I let this disappointment of a country ruin my beautiful weekend mood!

Why did Arise miss the opportunity to address the elephant in the room? Your reporting should have been comprehensive on that Shaggi's unfortunate situation because it's not talked about enough; Nigeria has a reoccurring issue of citizens being hit by stray bullets and nobody is ever held accountable for it. Where did that bullet come from, and who is shooting in a crowded area? Do your journalistic work, godanmit!

The state of Nigeria hospitals are horrible…to say the least. Think about the non-celebrities, the poor and destitutes who die every day unnoticed.

Doctor here….Nigeria does not have a dedicated Level 1 trauma center in the mold of Bellevue Hospital, Good Samaritan University Hospital, Harlem Hospital Center or Jacobi Medical Center (all in New York). Even Palestine has better trauma centers because of their level of exposure to the conflict with Israel dating back decades. Private hospitals are not equipped to handle multiply injured patients or GSW victims. Lagos State government alone can handle the funding of two such centres. The fact that the state that produced the president does not have a LEVEL 1 TRAUMA CENTRE as a legacy project is a sad commentary. The Minister of Health Pate is a seasoned professional who is widely travelled….but he seems more concerned with primary health care (his constituency) and not the tertiary institutions. What happened to all the centres of excellence enacted by previous administrations? You do not even need to build these from scratch…just pick a few and upgrade accordingly. Then get some of these billionaires in our society to put up an endowment fund for this.
