The appeals committee of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), chaired by lawyer Emmanuel Okibe, has rejected a petition by former NBBF president Olumide Oyedeji challenging the outcome of the federation’s 2026 elections.
The commission declared the petition unfounded, citing insufficient evidence to support its allegations, and confirmed the election results.
Oyedeji had contested the South West zonal elections, contesting them as well as the entire electoral process, citing irregularities in the delegate lists, the exclusion of council members, the choice of the congress venue and the appointment of the election and appeals committees.
However, the committee said that his initial omission from the list of authorized candidates was corrected, allowing him to participate in the election, which he lost.
The committee also raised concerns about the authenticity of documents submitted with its petition after NBBF board member Olumide Bamiduro allegedly denied signing them or authorizing the use of his signature.
He recommended that the federation refer the matter to law enforcement authorities for investigation. The charge has not been determined by a court.
Meanwhile, the committee also received a petition from Bauchi Basketball Association President Mohammed Sani Umar on his exclusion from the North East zonal elections.
However, details of the commission’s findings and decision on its petition were not available in the report.
The decisions are part of the post-election controversies that followed the emergence of the NBBF board of directors for the 2026-2030 administration.
