Chelsea have again beaten off competition from Liverpool, this time to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton for a reported fee of £60m.
Liverpool were looking to move for Lavia after missing out to Chelsea on a deal for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.
It was reported that Liverpool had also agreed a fee with Southampton for the 19-year-old midfielder.
However, it is Chelsea who have secured the move as Mauricio Pochettino makes another addition to his squad.
Lavia joins a Chelsea midfield that features Caicedo, who signed for a British-record fee of £115m, and Enzo Fernandez, who signed for £106.8m earlier this year.
Lavia only joined Southampton last summer from Manchester City, signing a five-year deal.
“Roméo Lavia has completed a transfer to Chelsea, Southampton Football Club can confirm,” read a statement from Southampton.
