NYG: Anambra wins bronze in karate, scales through 200 metres semi- final race


Team Anambra State combat fighter, Miss Ukamaka Ejikeme, Thursday, proved another point of capacity and readiness to conquer in the ongoing 2023 National Youth Games holding at Asaba, Delta State, by winning a bronze medal in Karate for Female Kumite (+47kg) class.

Also, the state’s Beach Volleyball team equally scaled through to the final in readiness to engage Team Delta for the Gold medal match.

Similarly, two other members of the team further qualified for the final of 200 metres race.

They are Miss Lucy Nwankwo, who finished first in Heat 3 of the 200 metres girls semi finals where she ran in Lane 3; and Miss Oluebube Ezechukwu, who finished second running in Lane 5 in Heat 2 of the 200 metres girls’ semi final.

Blueprint reports that the team had so far garnered nine medals such including three Gold, four Silver and two Bronze.

The team won gold in taekwondo (Individual Poomsae) through Chibuikem Oranye; Taekwondo (Team Poomsae) – Chibuikem Oranye and Ogechi Elechi; and in High Jump (Female) – Favour Obiefuna.

Others are Silver in Rugby (Female); Gymnastics (Artistic Gymnastics – Vault) – Ethel Jimoh; Chess (Male Singles event) – Chima Edeh; Chess (Male Singles event) – Victor Nwakohu; Bronze in Taekwondo (Individual Poomsae) – Ogechi Elechi; and
Taekwondo (Female Kyorugi -33kg class) – Divine Egebe.
